Our sexual lives are important to us. I imagine yours is important to you and that’s why you are here. Yet talking about sex and sexual health are often difficult topics for anyone, even with people that they know. I aim to create a safe place for clients to talk about their intimate lives. My approach is to empower people to learn more about their own sexuality, feel comfortable in their own skin, and let go of preconceived notions of what they should be doing. Sex therapy is for anyone who wants to be free of anxiety and shame around sex, and wishes to improve their sexual functioning and satisfaction. Sex therapy is like other therapy in that the main focus in the office is on talking and getting clarity and healing. Sexual problems can arise for individual and couples across the lifespan for so many different reasons. I work with people of all ages to address sexual problems and create a flexible, pleasure-oriented approach to their sexual expression.
The sexual problems that I focus on include:
- Desire discrepancies and concerns
- Arousal difficulties
- Trouble reaching orgasm
- Painful sexual touch and intercourse
- Erectile challenges
- Chronic medical condition or disabilities that affect sexual intimacy
- Couples conflicts that lead to sexual avoidance
My approach to sex therapy includes psychoeducation about human sexuality and sexual health, communication skills, values assessment, attitude change, managing emotions, specific exercises client do at home between sessions, and collaboration with medical professionals, as appropriate. I help couples gain confidence in talking more directly and clearly with each other and co-create a satisfying intimate life. I work with individuals who want to improve their understanding of themselves to be more comfortable to seek loving and intimate connections.
